This time of year, I get a lot of questions about what seniors should be doing to create your most competitive application. Keep in mind that one of my strategies is to minimize the amount of anxiety that students and families have during this process. Also keep in mind that way more students are admitted in the fall than in January, so your goal is to create the most competitive FALL application as possible.

Here is a quick checklist of what should be done by the end of September:

-SAT and/or ACT testing is completed.
-Requests for letters of recommendation and the school report have gone out.
-Registration for SAT II Subject Tests no later than November is completed.
-Near final drafts of your Common App and UC insight questions are completed.
-Registration for fall visits in your area is done.

You absolutely should not still be working on creating your college list or taking the SAT or ACT again. At this point, your application will get much further by focusing on the five above.

If you are wanting to be recruited for a D1 sport, you are also nearly out of time, if not completely out of time already.

I will post more about those three points soon.
