Taller Hoy

How do we intentionally design environments that develop the capacities people need to thrive?

What's Next

Over the past few years, I have been thinking a lot about what's next, not just for me, but for education.

In my imagination, that place is Taller Hoy.

A taller (Sp.) (or atelier in French) is a workshop: a place where people gather to create, experiment, and learn from one another. I imagine something similar for educators, researchers, entrepreneurs, artists, and community leaders who believe that schools can be designed differently.

Too often, education asks whether one model is "better" than another. Public or private. Boarding or day. Project-based or direct instruction.

Taller Hoy starts with a different question:

What human capacities are we trying to develop, and what kinds of environments help people develop them?

When we understand why something works, not just that it works, we become much better at designing systems that are equitable, adaptable, and rooted in the communities they serve.

That means bringing together research, lived experience, and practice to understand how people develop confidence, belonging, curiosity, resilience, academic engagement, identity, leadership, and purpose—and then designing schools, technologies, and organizations that intentionally cultivate those qualities.

I imagine educators-in-residence. Research fellowships. Community-based design labs. New curriculum. Ed-tech startups. Leadership institutes. Public conversations. Farm-to-table lunches where people linger over ideas. A place where teachers, students, founders, artists, and communities build together.

Not because we have all the answers.

Because we are committed to asking better questions.

This is Taller Hoy.

  • Educator-In-Residence

Educators-in-residence perfect their craft during year-long residencies at Taller Hoy. Learn, workshop, and implement cutting edge teaching to take back to your schools.

  • School Lunch

Students are required to spend the majority of their days at school. So the school should nourish them. Taste innovative curations that are nourishing and sustainable.

  • Workshops

Be part of a larger community invested in equitable education. Learn about what is happening in technology, curricula, leadership and more. Bring tangibles back to your schools and communities.
